I came across this amazing list of commands from the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:9-20 today…seemed like a good exercise to list them out. My Bible has a heading that says “Marks of the True Christian.” I need work on some of these, how about you?
- Let love be genuine
- Abhor what is evil
- Hold fast to what is good
- Love one another with brotherly affection
- Outdo one another in showing honor
- Do not be slothful in zeal
- Be fervent in spirit
- Serve the Lord
- Rejoice in hope
- Be patient in tribulation
- Be constant in prayer
- Contribute to the needs of the saints
- Seek to show hospitality
- Bless those who persecute you
- Do not curse them
- Rejoice with those who rejoice
- Weep with those who weep
- Live in harmony with one another
- Do not be haughty
- Associate with the lowly
- Never be wise in your own sight
- Repay no one evil for evil
- Give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all
- If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all
- Never avenge yourselves
- Leave it to the wrath of God
- Do not be overcome by evil
- Overcome evil with good
Wow. I just got really tired. Now I see why the law apart from Christ is such a heavy burden to bear
Amen, thanks for your comment. God’s loving grace empowers us to live for Him, plus when we are – we serve in the Spirit from His overflowing into our hearts. It won’t work if we just do it in our own strength! (Phil 4:13)
