is “Good Friday.”
As I sit here in my home office, steaming cup of coffee in hand as usual – I started to ask God to grant me his Holy Spirit as I begin my daily reading…it hit me. I nearly forgot.
Today is the day we remember as Jesus Christ dying for me. My sins, what I have done to send Him to that cross.
In Judges, it’s the story of a continual cycle – Israel’s rebellion, God allowing them to be conquered, people crying out to God, God delivering them. It happens over and over again. The people continually forget God.
and the people of Israel did not remember the LORD their God (Judges 8:34)
I’m not sure what your plans are for today – but I pray they include a long period of remembering what God did in sending His Son, Jesus, on mission – to put all of our sins on His sinless shoulders, and thereby – pay the price that was required, satisfy the debt that was owed, and bring us to God – to reconcile us with our Creator.
If you are a worship leader – please don’t get too caught up in the crazy schedules of this weekend – I’ve felt it myself – but please…spend some time remembering.
If you can – listen to Sovereign Graces “Alas and Did My Savior Bleed” – that will definitely help you remember…
1. Alas! and did my Savior bleed,
and did my Sovereign die!
Would he devote that sacred head
for sinners such as I?
2. Was it for crimes that I have done,
he groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!
3. Well might the sun in darkness hide,
and shut its glories in,
when God, the mighty maker, died
for his own creature’s sin.
4. Thus might I hide my blushing face
while his dear cross appears;
dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
and melt mine eyes to tears.
Thanks for helping us remember, Mike. And thanks for the song link! It is awesome.
